ADA Director Resigns
What’s Happening? Dr. Raymond A. Cohlmia has stepped down from his position as ADA executive director, effective February 8, 2025, after serving since November 2021. During his tenure, he led several significant initiatives, including developing a new business plan and overseeing the integration of the Forsyth Institute. Dr. Elizabeth Shapiro, who holds both dental and law degrees and has been serving as ADA's chief of governance and strategy, has been appointed as interim executive director while the board searches for a permanent replacement. Dr. Shapiro will immediately assume leadership of ADA operations.
ADA Launches a New Think Tank
What’s Happening? The ADA (American Dental Association) has launched a significant new initiative called the ADA Innovation and Research Consortium, bringing together diverse stakeholders from across the dental industry for the first time in January 2025. This think tank represents a groundbreaking collaboration between the ADA, ADA Forsyth Institute, dental product companies, distributors, startups, insurers, and dental service organizations. Led by ADA President Dr. Brett Kessler, President-elect Dr. Richard Rosato, and ADA Forsyth Institute CEO Dr. Wenyuan Shi, the consortium aims to break down traditional silos in dentistry and foster innovation through shared research and collaboration. While maintaining independence in governance, this initiative focuses on advancing global oral health through evidence-based dentistry and technological innovation.
Touro College of Dental Medicine Doubles its Class Size
What’s going on here? In 2023, Touro was approved to add 100 seats to it’s class, effectively going from 110 students to 210 students per class. Every year, the team at Dentwoo asks dental podcast hosts and fans to vote for their favorite podcasts and the 2024 results were released on February 11th.
